A custom developer of hotels, resorts and multiuse real estate projects, Woodbine Southwest Corporation began development of the Westin Kierland Resort in the summer of 2000. As part of a long-term plan, Woodbine moved its Phoenix office to Scottsdale. Initially Woodbine hired Telecom Advisors Group to assist in the acquisition of new telephone technology in the new location. As the project progressed, Woodbine management was impressed with the time and money saved by using Telecom and decided to expand the scope of work to cover the system acquisition and project management of the new Westin Kierland Resort. In September, Telecom Advisors Group began the long and vigorous process of finding a viable telecommunications solution for this facility.
Following release of the RFP and receipt of all proposals, Telecom assisted in the painstaking process of reviewing the bids and attending product demonstrations to narrow the field. After narrowing it down to two vendors,
Telecom began price negotiations that ultimately led to the final decision. In March of 2001, NEC Business Networks won the contract to install an NEC IPX2400 for the Westin Kierland Resort.
As the installation of the PBX moved forward, Telecom Advisors Group was involved in all issues of the project from cabling and infrastructure to the design of the hotel’s dialing plan. As a world-class resort, Kierland would include a golf facility and a timeshare property serviced by the hotel. Therefore, all technical aspects of the installation had to take into account the long-term growth of the resort. Telecom also was responsible for the design and installation of all Qwest services and recommended that fiber facilities (DS3) be brought into the hotel to allow flexibility and savings for large-scale convention services. The Qwest DS3 enables the Westin Kierland Resort to add additional lines quickly as demand increases. Telecom Advisors Group is proud to have been instrumental in helping Woodbine Southwest meet its telecommunications budget and in setting the stage for profitability of the resort and its services.
